This course started out with feelings of being overwhelmed and frustrated, and slowly evolved into feelings of pride and accomplishment. As part of the MD 400 course, we had to create this blog, which includes responses to articles and questions, as well as our projects and reflections of our work.
Even though I know I could have worked extensively on the projects and improved different aspects of it, I am proud of the works I completed. I am also proud for learning how to use and navigate through programs that will be beneficial for myself as an educator and for my students. I didn't realize the numerous programs available and various importances of using technology and software in the classroom.
Please take a look at my digital portfolio, which is a website I created that contains the projects I completed over the period of the course. You will find my WikiSpaces, Photoshop, Inspiration, non-linear Power Point, Photo stories and podcast projects. Any comments you many have are appreciated. Thank you.

Website:
I enjoyed the simplicity of your website and the organization of the pages. I was able to navigate through it well enough. Your hyperlinks work fine, but it could help your website if you added more hyperlinks into your text where each link would open in a new window so viewers can stay on yours at the same time.
Blog:
I loved how easy it was to read your blog, but your name or a title was not included at the top, which I think could enhance it. You were thorough in your reflections and adding in images, hyperlinks, and projects.
Overall:
Your work is a great accomplishment! I loved your PhotoShop picture including the quote about the memories of the ocean. You were able to communicate with the audience detailed directions on how to complete a task and reflect on the particular article or subject matter at hand. I think I understand your viewpoint on education and career goals so well now! I wish you good luck on your journey!!
Carla, good job building your website. I liked your choice of colors, they were bright and vibrant. I appreciate the way you use tact, in constructing your website. I was aiming at a similar style before creating the existing template for my website. Your digital story is impressive; the little that I know about Cape Verde coupled with your presentation is enough motivation for me to travel there. I thought the idea was genius and extremely appropriate for the course. Your website was easy to navigate through; I was able to open up links that I was interested in viewing with no problems. The PowerPoint presentation incorporating Sign Language as a subject of study was interesting. My roommate in college had parents who were hearing impaired and signed. The idea to use it as a PowerPoint presentation would be an excellent language tool for English Language Learners and monolingual students at the Elementary and Middle school levels. The exposure alone is a great way to break down barriers in a learning environment. I urge you to learn sign language if you have not already. Good Job.
Carla- Great portfolio. I really liked your nonlinear Powerpoint. I thought that you made a great connection between students who are deaf and their parents. A NLP would be really helpful for those students, and their parents could greatly benefit them. You connection reminds me that all the technology we have learned about can support parent-teacher communication. I would like to be a future TESOL teacher, and looking at your NLP has given me some ideas on NLP’s I can make for the parents of TESOL students. I also agree with what you wrote about the podcasts. I was self-conscious of the way I was speaking and errors I was making. I believe that if podcasts were made part of the daily classroom that the occassional error would be made, and just self-correcting and moving on would be acceptable. We make errors when we speak all the time, but we correct them. I think it should be acceptable to make one or two mistakes that are self-corrected without going back. We do that when we teach all the time! Finally, I enjoyed your Web 2.0 project. For young students, it’s important to have bookmarks. It saves time searching and re-searching. Thank you for sharing!
Great job on your digital portfolio, Carla! I found your blog’s design to be simple and easy to navigate, while also containing detailed information from class readings and projects. I appreciated how you discussed the process of creating your projects and reflected on both your progress and uses for the classroom. Your website was also easy to navigate and included some great reflections. Each link I tried was functional, and I like your use of screenshot images.
As for the individual projects, good job on Photoshop – that must have been a lot of layers to work with! Your goal of becoming a sign language interpreter was evident in your non-linear powerpoint – great idea! I enjoyed reading/listening to your philosophy of education and how it relates to your work in special education. It’s so important to discover different tools, strategies and technologies for use with individual students, which you were able to highlight. Your Inspiration map was good – I also found it difficult to determine what information to include, and like your idea of “cleaning it up!” Lastly, I enjoyed watching your photo story – it was both interesting and informational. Going to college in Brockton, MA, I met a lot of people from Cape Verde. I liked learning more about the culture and hearing a traditional song. Your parents must be proud of your work and how it ties to their heritage! Great work, thanks for sharing it!
Carla -
I completely agree with you about this course! I was so intrigued by the different projects I could've spent hours on them! Your website was very well organized and easy to follow. I fell in love with your Photoshop! It was such a clever/cute idea! I love the thought of using photoshop to incorporate animals into their habitats. It is a great tool to use in the classroom and I wish it wasn't so expensive so that districts could get full use out of them. I liked your digital essay and your link to photoshop elements, I never heard of it before. I know you can download the windows photostory from the Microsoft website for free though if you are interested! Your non-linear powerpoint was very creative and it was a great topic.
Your blog was also very easy to follow and read. I think you did a great job on your digital portfolio. Now that we have had a taste of all of these programs it will be hard to stop using them! You make excellent points on education and readers can really see your vision through your writing. I love that you want to make a difference and see progression in your students. I think that is a quality that all great teachers have! Good luck with the rest of your classes and have a great summer!
